Der Kommissar is in da house! Dat's right. Danise is Der Kommissar. Tonight I tried to have an outing in The Presidio of San Francisco. This consists of The Presidio Theatre playing classical music. It also involves an after party of post-show hangouts. I went on a date with myself at Der Kommissar as suggested by the volunteer manager. I saw the interior and it was near the Disney Museum. I decided on the sorbet for $9 because the panna cotta was not available tonight. Damn. Okay, I'll have the raspberry sorbet and they got the free wine drink. Showgoers could have a glass of sippy wine on the house...they got it for this one. It was a good pairing and like $9.50. I liked hanging out and people watching...you know.

Had a wonderful dinner here tonight. Roasted marcona almonds. Oven roasted olives Cheese fritters with Marshall farms honey (yummy) Sourdough bread with herb butter -- we had a new Yorker with us so we ordered this for him but it was honestly so amazing. Blistered shishito peppers with garlic and breadcrumbs. Mmmm Halibut Little gem lettuce salad. Papas bravas New York steak We will be back. Great service. Parking was easy. Lovely meal.

We met and picked up our friends who were flying into SFO. Anticipating they would be hungry, I searched online for a restaurant with good food and ambiance, yet quiet enough where four of us could have a conversation without having to yell. We also wanted an easy place to park and keep an eye on things because their bags were in the car. Based on menu, we chose The Commissary over the Presidio Club. Not knowing how busy the restaurant would be on a Monday evening, I made a reservation through Open Table. Traffic was terrible, but I gave us plenty of time to drive there. When we arrived it did not seem terribly busy, just a few tables seated inside and outside. The weather has been crazy warm lately and there is no AC inside the restaurant. The seating hostess said if we would like to sit outside, a table would be opening up soon, so we made our way to the bar for a cocktail. Two of us were still waiting for our drinks when our table was ready. We headed over and the bartender followed up with our cocktails. This was our first time so our waiter explained the menu and how to order. We decided that we were going to share everything to get the widest range of tastes. We ended up with an assortment of tapas and appetizers, a couple of entrees and sides. We started with the fried pork chicharon with spicy aioli, marinated olives, sourdough bread with olive oil and sea salt butter. The aioli was a perfect dip for the light and crisp texture of the chicharon, dusted with (what I expect was) hot paprika. In between bites of crispy porky yumminess, we nibbled on marinated olives and house made bread. With hardly a break, we segued right into the appetizers. The duck confit croquettes with a tomato pepper chutney and whipped goat cheese was pretty tasty. The deep fried balls paired very well with the tomato pepper chutney. And then there was the cured hamachi. For me it was fabulous! Slices of hamachi, fennel puree, pickled fennel and meyer lemon relish, and trout roe were plated like a wreath, garnished with some microgreens. The colours were gorgeous. It took a bit of convincing to get one of our friends to try it as she is not a raw fish kind of gal, but in the end she totally enjoyed the bite. Next were the mains - duck breast with roasted tomatoes and summer squash on a bed of sauteed greens. I have never seen duck breast this large - ever. It was cooked perfectly rare and the skin nicely brown. The roasted veggies complemented the rich meat. The impossible albondigas served with a medley of spring vegetables on bomba rice looked a lot like a risotto. The rice was very creamy with (IIRC) a lemony background and quite delicious, but I did not realise until I took a bite of the albondigas that it was a vegan version of the traditional meatball. I was surprised because it was nicely seasoned and I wanted to finish the rice for myself. On a side note, I am not convinced of the need for a plant-based meat substitute. If you are vegetarian/vegan, why do you want to eat something that tastes like meat. Anyhow, that is a topic for another time. We were well into the mains when the sides arrived - roasted mushrooms with gruyere and aged sherry, and patatas bravas with aioli. At this point, we were engaged in eating and talking, so no pics of these. Oh well. After we finished eating and the table cleared, everyone claimed to be full and "I can't possibly eat another bite", but I had it in me for a wee bit more. I chose their seasonal sorbet AND four spoons, just in case. It was presented with a nasturtium flower, almost looking too pretty to eat. But the peppery bite of the blossom complemented the light and refreshing flavour of melon and chamomile. And yeah, everyone dug in, no sword fighting with spoons. As we were wrapping up our conversation, we watched a coyote saunter across the upper part of the parade grounds. It walked with purpose, but not so much that it couldn't stop or pause to check out its surroundings. As it disappeared into the night we felt a chill in the air. Yay for that marine air blowing into the Bay. No jackets, so it was time to leave. . Overall, we had a delightful evening. Good food with excellent company made for a wonderful experience. This is on my rotation list and would definitely recommend.

Thank you to The Commissary team for making my BF's 30th birthday just a tad more special. Upon arrival at our reservation, we were quickly seated in the dining area of the restaurant. The cutest little detail appeared on our specially printed menus that stated "happy 30th birthday!." The service was supurb. Our waiter was very helpful in assisting us in deciding what to order. He checked on us when needed and provided us with space when we wanted to enjoy each others company. We had a lovely experience as the ambiance was quite inviting. Not too rowdy and not stuffy either. The BF and I share the following dishes and would say that everything was cooked well: -Cheese Fritters: Perfect little balls of goodness. Bitesize balls that tantalize your taste buds and gets you ready for more food. Perfectly fried and just a tad sweet from the honey. Smaller than anticipated, but yummy nonetheless. -grilled shrimp al ajillo, garlic oil, dried chili, lemon, parsley: Giant succulent prawns nicely coated with a thick garlic sauce. My BF loved this dish. I enjoyed the extra smokey flavor from the grill. -roasted chicken, sherry, shallots, smoked date, frisée, marcona almond 36: Super juicy and moist chicken with so much flavor. The skin was crispy and added a nice touch of texture. Surprisingly, the portions were really substantial on this plate. -heritage pork chop, poached apple, membrillo adobo salsa: my BF ordered this dish and reported that the pork chop was made well. He wasn't a huge fan of the apple, though overall thought the dish was cooked well. Flavorwise, everything complimented each other. Overall the meal was a mixture of good ambiance, great service, and perfectly cooked food with great ingredients. Definitely a nice hidden gem amongst all the restaurants available in the city. Being away from the hustle and bustle of the city felt like a quick escape. An added plus? Free parking!

I've lived in San Francisco since 2002 and I haven't really ventured out to the Presidio. So I was excited to try the Commissary with my eating buddy. The concept is Spanish-Californian and it certainly delivers. We were seated in the chef's counter right in front of the executive chef. It's absolutely the best seat in the house. We ordered padron peppers, shrimp a la plancha, Spanish Octopus, dry-aged bone-in steak and the strawberry panna cotta. Overall, the food was good. The padron peppers were a bit overcooked. The shrimp and Spanish Octopus were excellent - highly recommended. The steak was HUGE and very, very tasty. I came here craving meat and mission accomplished. The strawberry panna cotta was a great way to end the meal. Service was great and the ambiance was excellent. It's pretty pricey - the above meal including a drink and tax and tip totaled about $110 per person. I think this is definitely a good restaurant and would recommend it when you are in the area.

Tucked away in the Presidio lies this little gem, The Commissary. The exterior and interior makes me feel like I'm enjoying a warm evening in the South. Pros: + Servers are awesome - really friendly + Spacious and well-lit dining area - I can see the menu and my food! + Private dining room seats ~15 comfortably + Casual ambiance, didn't feel pretentious + Hidden from the bustle of the city + Unisex bathrooms are well maintained + Food was light and refreshing, not heavily sauced, ingredients seem top notch Cons: - Presidio scares me at night. Well, parks in general. Recommendations: [I forgot to take a picture of the prix fixe menu, so here's me trying my best to recall our private dinner on 10.05.2017] + Roast chicken with little potatoes, a green sauce, and I think arugula; 4/5 + Chocolate soufflé; 5/5 + Mixed greens with fruits; 5/5 The chocolate soufflé is an absolute must. Small, not overly sweet or rich, and just perfect. The salad starter was amazing! I can't tell if it's just me and my latest cravings for salads, but I loved the mixed greens with small cuts of...peaches or mango? The fruits and tangy dressing were both refreshing touches. As for the entree, I chose chicken just because it's more of a cooking challenge than steak. The skin was not overly fatty and had a beautiful light crisp crunch to it. Meat was lean but not overly dry. Could it be a little more moist? Sure, but I think they did really well in keeping it light and flavorful without killing it. Beautiful space, great service, good food. Would definitely come back on my own dime!

Great staff, love the ambience in the restaurant, creative food! I've only been here once but I loved their scallop dish of the night. The smoked octopus looked dynamite. Next time I hope to try their fried fish too. I had their potatoes which were really crispy and flavorful. Little heavy with the aioli but it always makes food tastier. I hope to try one of their once a month five course nights with guest chefs!
